Ingredients
Let's take a closer look at the key ingredients you'll need to create this oil-free homemade hummus masterpiece in just a matter of minutes. With a short list of simple, yet essential ingredients, you'll be well on your way to enjoying a guilt-free indulgence that will leave you feeling satisfied and nourished.
- Canned Chickpeas (Garbanzo Beans) - the foundation for this delectable dip! Rich in protein and fiber, chickpeas not only provide a creamy texture but also offer a wide range of health benefits.
- Aquafaba - the liquid from those chickpeas is also going into this hummus! Just one less step to make it easier to make and it's the perfect about of liquid to get the ideal texture.
- Canned Cannellini Beans - the not so authentic secret ingredient to the creamiest homemade hummus. These white beans are much softer than canned chickpeas and easier to blend up in your home blender.
- Creamy Tahini - find a smooth, good quality tahini (I use Soom). Just a touch of the creamy sesame seed paste is all you need to make your homemade hummus super creamy.
- Fresh Lemon - adds a zesty tang and enhances the overall flavor profile.
- Cumin, Garlic Powder, Smoked Paprika, Salt - a simple combo of spices to round off the flavors.

Variations and Substitutions
Add-ins
One way to add an extra layer of flavor to your hummus is by experimenting with different herbs and spices. Consider adding fresh cilantro, parsley, or basil for a vibrant and herbaceous twist. Don't be afraid to get creative and mix and match these ingredients to suit your unique taste preferences.
You can also incorporate roasted red peppers, roasted garlic, or even roasted beetroot during the blending process to create a colorful and flavorful hummus variation.
Toppings
Another way to customize your hummus is by adding various toppings and mix-ins. Think outside the box and try sprinkling toasted pine nuts, chopped olives, everything but the bagel seasonings or sundried tomatoes on top for added texture and flavor.
Chickpea Substitute
You could also choose to make this hummus completely with white beans and omit the chickpeas completely. If you do this, reduce the aquafaba by half and slowly add more as you need to. White beans are very soft and therefore won't need as much liquid to make a creamy dip.
With these variations and customizations, you can truly make your homemade hummus a reflection of your personal taste and preferences. So, get creative, have fun, and enjoy the process of experimenting with different flavors and ingredients to take your hummus to new heights.
Tips for Storing
When it comes to storing your homemade hummus, an airtight container or jar is essential. This will help maintain its freshness and will keep in the fridge for up to a week. The properly store hummus will last in your fridge for up to 5 days.
So, grab your veggies, pita chips, or whatever tickles your taste buds, and get ready to dig in to the creamiest homemade hummus ever!
FAQ
You can make this recipe using only white beans if that's what you have on hand! However, start with only half of the aquafaba and add more as you need to. White beans tend to be softer and won't need quite as much liquid in the blender.
