Ingredients
All you need for this recipe is:
- quinoa
- water
That's it!! You can choose to zhuzh it up with a veggie broth or salt, but it is not necessary for a fluffy result!
How to Microwave Quinoa
This method of cooking is great to know, as it needs little supervision and can be done without much thought! It's a great way to add a wholesome grain and some plant-based protein to your quick weeknight meals or lunches!
Step 1: Rinse your quinoa well to remove any dust or debris.
Step 2: Put the quinoa in a LARGE glass bowl with the water.
Step 3: Cover the bowl with a plate or microwave safe dish that seals off the top of the bowl.
Step 4: Microwave for 5 minutes, let rest for 30 seconds. Microwave another 5 minutes. Let it rest for 5 more minutes before fluffing and enjoying!
Most Important Tips
- Use a bowl that is bigger than you suspect you'll need! The quinoa will bubble and expand as it cooks, and you don't want a mess in the microwave!
- Use a plate to cover the bowl well. This allows the quinoa to steam and gives you a nice and fluffy result.
Storage
Cooled quinoa can be stored in the fridge, in a sealed container for up to 3 days after cooking.
Cooked quinoa can also be frozen in a freezer safe container or bag for up to 6 months.

How to Microwave Quinoa
Ingredients
- 1 cup quinoa
- 1¾ cup water or vegetable broth
Instructions
- Rinse quinoa to remove any dust or debris.1 cup quinoa
- Add quinoa and water to a LARGE glass bowl. (Important Note- Pick a bowl bigger than what you think you'll need to prevent overflow.)
- Cover the bowl with a large plate and microwave for 5 minutes. Let the quinoa settle for at least 30 seconds and then microwave for another 5 minutes.
- Allow it to sit covered for 5 more minutes before carefully removing the plate (use a towel or hot pad, it will be hot!) Fluff with a fork and enjoy!
Notes
- Make sure you use a bowl that is large enough to prevent any overflow. Better to use bigger than you think then too small!
- When removing from the microwave, be careful to use protection from the heat as the steam and quinoa will be hot.
